Will the jewelry fade?
At Haute Haus, we curate jewelry using high-performance materials such as 304/316/316L stainless steel, copper, natural stone, crystals, imitation pearls, and sterling silver — all selected for their durability, luster, and wearability.
Many of our pieces are also plated with 18K gold or silver using techniques like vacuum plating (IP/PVD) or electroplating. Full plating and material details are available on each product page.
What to Expect:
Stainless steel (304/316/316L): Known for its resistance to corrosion and tarnish, gold- or silver-plated stainless steel can last 2–3 years or more with proper care.
Copper-based jewelry: Gold or silver-plated copper pieces offer a luxe look at a great value. With regular wear, the plating may last 6–12 months, depending on exposure to sweat, water, and friction.
Sterling silver (92.5% pure silver): Naturally elegant and long-lasting, it may oxidize over time but can easily be restored with regular polishing. It is not plated unless stated, and will age gracefully with proper care.
Care Tips to Prolong Shine & Finish:
Avoid exposing jewelry to water, perfume, sweat, or harsh chemicals
Remove before swimming, showering, or exercising
Store pieces in dry, sealed pouches or jewelry boxes to prevent tarnish
Gently wipe after wear using a soft, dry cloth
Avoid stacking or rubbing plated items to minimize surface wear
With intentional care, your Haute Haus jewelry will retain its brilliance and beauty — giving you timeless luxury, every day.
What’s the difference between your jewelry materials, and how do I choose?
Haute Haus pieces are made from carefully selected materials designed for durability, style, and skin-friendliness. Here’s how each one compares:
Stainless Steel (304 / 316 / 316L): Our most popular material for long-lasting, everyday pieces.
316L stainless steel offers enhanced corrosion resistance and is ideal for sensitive skin, making it a top choice for high-contact jewelry.
304 stainless steel is slightly more affordable and commonly used in fashion jewelry — it’s still hypoallergenic and highly durable.
Note: While stainless steel itself can last for years, the plating (gold or silver) may fade over time depending on exposure and care.
Copper-Based Jewelry: Lightweight, warm-toned, and cost-effective.
Copper can naturally oxidize over time, developing a greenish patina — especially when exposed to moisture, sweat, or skin oils.
Some pieces are coated with a protective lacquer, but this coating is not permanent.
If you have sensitive skin, we recommend choosing 316L stainless steel or sterling silver instead of copper-based jewelry.
Tip: Regular cleaning and storing pieces in a dry, sealed pouch can slow down oxidation and keep your jewelry looking fresh.
Sterling Silver (925): A timeless classic made from 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% alloy (usually copper) to increase strength.
Sterling silver may oxidize or darken over time, but it’s easy to polish back to brilliance.
It’s a great option for those who prefer non-plated, natural metals with a more refined aesthetic.
Like gold, silver develops character with age — many wearers embrace the soft patina over time.
Gold or Silver-Plated Jewelry: To bring luxury finishes to our accessible pieces, many styles are plated with 18K gold or silver.
We use vacuum plating (PVD/IP) on most pieces, which is stronger and more durable than traditional electroplating.
However, all plating will gradually fade — especially with daily wear, exposure to water, sweat, friction, or harsh chemicals.
Note: Plating thickness isn’t measured in karats — instead, it’s in microns. Most demi-fine jewelry features 0.1–1.0 microns, while high-end fine jewelry may use thicker coatings.
Pearls & Stones
Imitation pearls are made from glass, resin, or plastic, offering elegance and durability at an affordable price.
Freshwater pearls are used in select pieces and are naturally unique and organic in shape.
Natural stones (such as agate, quartz, or reconstituted gems) may be dyed or lab-enhanced. These are not gem-certified, but are chosen for their beauty, texture, and accessibility.
💬 Still Unsure?
Each product page includes clear material and plating details, but if you’re uncertain or need help choosing based on your skin type or preferences, feel free to contact our Customer Care team.
Are your pieces gold-plated?
Many Haute Haus pieces feature gold-plated finishes, with karat values such as 14K, 18K, 22K, or 24K indicated in the product description when applicable.
14K and 18K plating offer a soft, elegant tone with enhanced durability due to alloy blending.
22K and 24K plating provide a richer, deeper yellow hue, but may show signs of wear sooner with frequent use.
Plating Thickness:
Most fashion and demi-fine jewelry features gold plating between 0.03 to 0.05 microns — standard for light to moderate wear.
Some pieces may include thicker plating (0.5 to 3 microns) in high-contact areas like clasps and bands for added longevity.
Note: Karat (K) refers to the gold tone and purity, while plating thickness is measured in microns, not karats.
Material Information:
All gold-plated items at Haute Haus are made with a metal base such as stainless steel, then plated with 18K gold or silver through techniques like vacuum plating (PVD/IP) or electroplating.
While durable and stylish, plated jewelry is not solid gold — over time, the surface layer may fade, especially when exposed to water, sweat, friction, or chemicals.
How to Maximize Longevity:
Avoid moisture, sweat, perfume, and lotions
Remove jewelry before exercising, swimming, or sleeping
Store in a dry, sealed pouch or box
Gently wipe with a soft cloth after each wear
Haute Haus jewelry is designed for elegance and longevity — with proper care, your favorite pieces will stay radiant for years to come.
What’s the difference between gold-filled and gold-plated jewelry?
Gold-plated jewelry features a thin layer of gold (0.03–0.05 microns) applied over base metals like stainless steel, copper, or brass using electroplating. It offers the luxurious look of gold at an accessible price but may fade over time with regular wear or exposure to water and friction.
Gold-filled jewelry, on the other hand, has a much thicker layer of gold (5% or more by weight), mechanically bonded to a core metal. It is more durable, longer-lasting, and highly resistant to tarnish — but also significantly more expensive.
At Haute Haus, we specialize in gold-plated jewelry that balances everyday beauty with affordability. Gold-filled items are not currently part of our collection.
Is your jewelry hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin?
Yes! Our hypoallergenic jewelry is primarily made from high-quality stainless steel, including gold-plated stainless steel and titanium steel. These materials are known for their durability, resistance to tarnish, and skin-friendly properties, making them ideal for those with sensitive skin.
Please note: We currently do not offer traditional solid gold or sterling silver in our hypoallergenic range. However, our stainless steel options provide a stylish, long-lasting alternative without compromising on comfort or wearability. Learn More
What’s the difference between PVD gold coating and traditional gold plating?
The main difference lies in durability and wear resistance.
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) is a modern vacuum-coating process that uses titanium nitride to create a hard, long-lasting finish. It’s significantly more resistant to wear than traditional gold plating, making it ideal for everyday jewelry that lasts longer and retains its shine.
Traditional gold plating involves applying a microscopically thin layer of real gold onto a base metal like silver, copper, or brass. While it gives the look and feel of solid gold, it is less durable and can wear off faster over time — especially with exposure to water, sweat, or friction.
Both techniques offer a luxurious gold appearance, but neither adds intrinsic melt value to the piece, as the amount of actual gold used is minimal.
For lasting beauty and performance, Haute Haus curates jewelry finished with PVD gold coatings on stainless steel or titanium steel for a modern, wear-resistant shine.
What are the advantages of PVD gold plating?
The main advantage conventional gold-plating is that it gives the product the exact look of solid gold, while as the main advantage of traditional gold plating is that it offers extremely low durability and is very easily scratched, it will also start to tarnish within 12 to 18 months.
Overall, here are main advantages offered by adding gold colored PVD coated jewelry to your collection:
- PVD jewelry offers a very high level of durability.
- PVD jewelry provides better corrosion resistance against sweat, chlorine and more.
- When PVD jewelry gets dirty, you can clean it without any issue.
- PVD jewelry offers different shades of the gold color for selection.
- PVD coatings can be up to ten times thicker than conventional gold plating, increasing the life of the pieces.
