How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home

Haute Haus – How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home

Haute Haus's All-New Ring Collection

You can measure your ring size from the comfort of your home using a few different methods. Some are more accurate than others, but we would always recommend visiting a jewelr to be properly measured for the best results.

When is it best to measure your ring size?

The best time of day to measure your ring size is in the evening. Our fingers naturally change size throughout the day and it’s best to measure them when they are at their largest to ensure you get a comfortable ring fit. During the day, it is normal for your fingers to swell and they will be at their largest by the evening. Avoid measuring your fingers when they are cold, as at this point they can be at least half a size too small. We recommend sizing your fingers a few times to make sure your ring size measurement is as accurate as possible.

How should my ring fit?

The correct ring size should be snug enough not to fall off, but not too tight. A ring should slide over the knuckle with some slight resistance and you should be able to take it off without struggling but it also shouldn’t be so loose that it can fall off your finger.

The difference between ring sizes is fairly small, so you will probably fit a few sizes comfortably. If you are in between sizes, then the style of ring you are looking for will define whether you should go up or down a ring size. For example, if the ring has a broader band, we would advise that you go up a size because it will be more snug. For thin, delicate rings, go down a size because it will feel looser.

Find your ring size using a ring sizer

To help measure your finger, you can buy one of our handy ring sizers for just KES 100. Simply place the ring sizer over your finger, then pull the sizer until it fits snugly on your finger without being too tight. Make sure you can still slide the sizer over your knuckle, then use the black arrow to identify your unique ring size against the measurements.

Find your ring size using a ring you already have

You can also find your ring size by using a ring that you already own. Simply download and print this ring sizing guide at 100% size. Next, place your ring over the circles until you find one which matches up exactly with the inside of your ring. The letter inside the matching circle indicates the size of the ring.

If you’re looking to match someone else’s ring size without them knowing, then using one of their rings can be a good option. If you are worried about them noticing their ring is missing, you can always use their ring to draw a circle of the inside of the ring on some paper before quickly returning it. Then you can use this with the sizing guide by cutting out that circle you’ve drawn as neatly as possible. If you are measuring a finger size for an engagement ring, choose a ring worn on the middle finger and then prepare to go a few sizes down.

Find your ring size with the string method

The string method involves wrapping something around your finger and then measuring where the ends met on a ruler. Take some string or a piece of paper no wider than 1.4 cm. Wrap it around your finger and mark with a pen where one end of the string or paper meets the other. Then line the string or paper against a ruler and read off the measurement. Using the chart below, you can match your finger measurement to a ring size.

Find your ring size using an app

Alternatively, there are free apps available that you can download to help you find your ring size. Here is one.

Find your ring size in a different country

Just like with clothes, different countries may have different ways of noting your ring size. In the UK, they use an alphabet sizing system, whileas in the US, they use a scale of numbers (and half numbers). If you know your ring size in a different country, you can cross-reference it with a handy guide to check what that size is in a different country depending the sizing system used for the ring you intend to purchase.

What if I can't find my ring size

Because ring sizes are so small in difference, at Haute Haus, we generally offer sizes on a US scale. However, if your size differs from any of these, please use the chart to cross-reference your ring size.
